10 Reasons Why You Should Sew..

  1. SEWING IS THE NEW “BLACK”! Home sewing is experiencing an unprecedented resurgence. People are craving the need to sew to express their individuality and creativity and to produce quality “one of a kind” products. Read more ...
  2. INDIVIDUALITY: It is the only way you will get exactly the right style, in exactly the right colour - for you; the unique individual.
  3. QUALITY: You have complete control over the quality of the fabrics, interlinings and trims that you sew. Pick the very best and create garments and other items that others can only dream about.
  4. CREATIVITY: With so many fabulous fabrics, products, machines and threads available, the sky is the limit – let your imagination run wild.
  5. ECONOMY: You can’t usually compete with cheap end clothes, but you can still make the best quality garments for a third of the cost of top of the line ready-to-wear. You will also be able to sew on the buttons that fall off and take up your own hems and other basic alterations - your mother may not always be able to do this for you!
  6. PLEASURE: Enjoy every minute of this wonderful, creative experience – from the fabric shopping with like-minded friends, to the rewarding sense of achievement in a job well done.
  7. PATIENCE: If you’re already a patient person you’ll easily cope with sewing, if you’re not a patient person you will learn to be patient – guaranteed! There are times when demand things NOW and there are times when you need to chill and take the time to savour an activity. Hey – you’re learning something new – give yourself a chance to take the dolly steps until you’re on the road to churning out industrial quantities of garments!
  8. NO LIMITS: sewing is a skill with great variety – clothing, costumes, veils, hats, curtains, bags, cushions, purses, toys, blankets, wearable art, placemats, ties, belts, quilts, lap top cases, patchwork, mobile phone cases, textile arts, back packs, book covers, CD covers, brooches, wall hangings, tents, dog beds – practically anything that you can put a needle into can be sewn! You won’t run out of ideas!
  9. LONGEVITY: Ask a keen sewist who they learnt to sew from .. If it wasn’t their Home Ec or Technology teacher it was probably their mum or grandmother ... not all schools teach textiles nowadays and not all students get enough time to learn properly .. so who is going to teach it? Well, besides me, YOU will be able to pass on your skills and inspire those around you.
  10. MADE FOR YOU: Once you start sewing you’ll learn about figure types and ways to enhance your “killer features” and ways to hide your “not so killer features”.. There are many styling tricks that flatter your figure. By making your own clothing you will learn to make clothes that actually FIT you! You will recognise design features that work best for you – you can adjust patterns exactly the way you want – shorter, longer, fuller, deeper, narrower – just the way YOU want it!

Sew.. what are you waiting for?
