10 Reasons Why You Should Sew..
SEWING IS THE NEW “BLACK”! Home sewing is experiencing an unprecedented resurgence. Just visit the many craft shows that tour the country or enter the blogging world to find a whole new world of sewists – there’s a whole lotta stitchin goin on! People are craving the need to sew to express their individuality and creativity and to produce quality “one of a kind” products.
- LIVING CREATIVELY is an online magazine for all things creative – heaps of sewing action at this site – particularly the article below – here is a snippet:
“Of the staggering 62,000 individual craft items Birch Haberdashery sells, sales have skyrocketed for four things: dressmakers models, zips, scissors and thread. If that doesn't tell you sewing is hot right now, nothing will.
"Our sales are going up all the time, by up to five per cent a year. Sales of zippers are up dramatically. I've never sold as many dressmakers' models and as much sewing thread, either. Scissors are up, too," says Managing Director John Birch, who has been in the haberdashery business for 59 years.

“So this last week I was having a chat to a craft magazine editor and also a commissioning editor for a publisher. They both said to me that what they were surprised and delighted that what they had heard on the crafty grape vine last Spring was coming true. They heard that sewing was going to be huge in late 08 onwards and that global sales of sewing machines were going to go through the roof. Well, I was delighted to hear that sewing was be the 'next big thing', but what with all of the credit crunchiness going on I wasn't so convinced about the huge increase in sewing machine sales... Ye of little faith! It turns out that sales of sewing machines in the last quarter of 08 surpassed expectations of 4 fold up on the previous year to 6 - 15 fold depending on who is doing the reporting?
